Can someone please tell me how December is already here? I know I say something to this extent every month, but this particular month marks the end of the year. It's insane to me how quickly time in general has been passing, and I'm not entirely sold on that being a good thing. Maybe because I haven't taken an actual vacation (or weekend off) in ages, but the days seem to pass a lot quicker lately. Or maybe it's just because I'm getting older and, with that, a hell of a lot busier.
Now the word resolve means to settle, straighten out, determine or rectify. And the month of December represents exactly that for me. It's a time during which I take stock of the year that's passed and reflect on what I want to accomplish in the coming year. It's an opportunity to slow down and relax, and yet it's simultaneously a busy and engaging time where friends and family reunite.
Despite my best efforts, I can't help but have a soft spot for Christmas. And I'm not talking about all the gimmicky marketing narrative that implies I have to spent too much money decorating to the nines and buying expensive gifts for everyone in order to elicit the holiday spirit. No, I'm talking about the warm feeling I get when I see the snow falling and while I'm spending some quality time with good people.
So that is why I'm looking forward to the holidays and I hope each and every one of you reading this has a wonderful time this month, however you wish to spend it.
I've been asked to have my article "The Art Of Saying No" used as educational material for a high-level ESL course in Japan! How wickedly cool. Of course I couldn't say "No" to that one.
Wishing you all a wonderful December!
