Journal Entry 009

I'm thrilled that we're finally starting to get some winter weather! I'm one of those rare creatures who feels most alive during the cold months. Perhaps because I'm born in February, or maybe because I'm just not a fan of the heat of a hot sun. Outside of the inconveniences of a heavy snowfall (i.e. shoveling before work and salting ice), the winter months happen to bring me a lot of happiness.

Here's a photo of what I wake up to each morning: my (new) backyard covered in a blanket of freshly fallen snow. I'm also a huge fan of pine trees, so this view just fills me with a serenity I can't explain. It won't be long before we get so much snow that I'll struggle to walk through it, as our winters tend to be heavy here in Northern Ontario.

When I was a kid, my dad would have to use the snowblower in the backyard so that he could carve out a path for our dog to be able to go to the washroom because the snow was just that high. Some years our snowbanks end up as tall as I am (although I'm only 5ft2, but still). And now here I am, all adult and buying my own snowblower because it takes me almost two hours to shovel my driveway. The irony.
